Open Access Policy

Open Access Policy

Applies to: all 6 EP Journals Group journals (JSSHRS, GJETR, GJEFM, JEFRR, JMRR, JNSRR).
Effective: 1 May 2026, version 1.0. Replaces all earlier journal-level OA statements.

1. What "open access" means at this journal

Journal of Management Research and Review is a fully open access journal. From the day an article is published, anyone with an internet connection can read, download, copy, share, print, link to, text-mine, or build on it. There is no embargo, no subscription tier, no premium access version, no requirement to register an account, and no fee paid by readers. This is true for every article in the journal, including those in special issues.

This is gold open access in the standard sense, with no later transition to a paywalled archive. If Journal of Management Research and Review ceases publication or is transferred to another publisher, the open access status of articles already published cannot be reversed: the CC BY 4.0 license under which they appear is irrevocable.

2. License: CC BY 4.0

Every article we publish is released under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. CC BY 4.0 is the open-content license required by Plan S, by the U.S. OSTP 2022 public-access memorandum, by UKRI, and by most other major research funders worldwide.

Under CC BY 4.0, anyone — academic researchers, teachers, journalists, AI developers, commercial publishers, government policy offices — may copy, redistribute, adapt, translate, or commercially reuse any article published in Journal of Management Research and Review, provided they give appropriate credit to the original author, link back to the license, and indicate whether changes were made.

The full legal text of CC BY 4.0 is at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode. We embed a CC BY 4.0 statement on the first page of every article PDF and in the article's CrossRef metadata.

3. Author copyright

Authors keep their copyright. We do not ask authors to transfer copyright to EP Journals Group at any point. Authors grant us a non-exclusive license to publish, distribute, archive, and disseminate the article — but the author remains the legal copyright holder.

This means authors can, without seeking our permission:

  • deposit the published version of record in any institutional, subject, or general-purpose repository, including ResearchGate, Academia.edu, SSRN, RePEc, PhilPapers, Humanities Commons, OSF, and Zenodo
  • self-archive on personal websites, lab sites, ORCID profiles, and academic networks
  • reuse their own figures, tables, or text excerpts in a future book, course pack, conference paper, or blog post
  • translate their article into another language
  • include their article in an edited collection or anthology

Where an author wants to include other parties' content in their article (figures, datasets, photographs, instruments) that is not under CC BY 4.0 or a compatible license, the author is responsible for obtaining permission from the rights holder before submission. We ask authors to declare any such third-party permissions in the manuscript's Permissions or Acknowledgements section.

4. Funding model: Article Processing Charges

Journal of Management Research and Review is funded by Article Processing Charges (APCs) paid by authors or their institutions on accepted manuscripts. The APC is USD 30 per accepted article.

There are no other charges of any kind. We do not levy submission fees, page charges, color figure charges, supplementary file charges, fast-track fees, or membership fees. Editorial decisions are made on the scholarly merit of the manuscript only; we do not know an author's funding situation while review is in progress.

The APC is invoiced only after editorial acceptance. If an author chooses to withdraw at any point before acceptance, no charge applies. After acceptance, an author wishing to withdraw can do so without penalty if they notify us before the article enters production typesetting.

Detailed APC information, including waiver eligibility and the payment process, is on the APC page.

5. Waivers

We operate two waivers, each reducing the APC from USD 30 to USD 27:

  • Student waiver. Available to corresponding authors who are currently enrolled in a degree program. Authors provide a copy of a current student ID or a brief letter from the institutional registrar at the point of waiver request.
  • Unfunded researcher waiver. Available to authors whose research has no grant funding and whose institution does not pay APCs on their behalf. Authors confirm this in writing in the waiver request, and the editorial office may follow up if anything in the funding declaration appears inconsistent.

Waivers are administered by the editorial office, separately from the editorial decision. The editorial team is not informed about waiver requests until the editorial decision is final, so waiver status cannot influence acceptance or rejection.

Waiver requests should be sent to editor@jmrr.ep-journals.org at the time of submission or at the latest before invoicing. Each waiver request is acknowledged within 5 working days.

We do not run country-based waivers (e.g., Research4Life Group A/B). Our APC is set at a level we believe is globally affordable, and the two waivers above are intended to support the cases where a USD 30 fee is genuinely a barrier.

6. No embargoes, no exceptions

Journal of Management Research and Review does not impose embargoes. Articles are publicly accessible from the moment they are posted to the journal site. There is no delay-and-then-release model, no "premium" version that becomes free after 12 months, and no version-of-record paywall.

This applies to all article types we publish — original research, review articles, short communications, case studies, editorial commentary — and to all special-issue content.

7. Indexing and discoverability

Every article we accept is registered with CrossRef and assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI). The DOI prefix for Journal of Management Research and Review is 10.65150/EP-jmrr.

Article metadata (title, abstract, authors, ORCIDs where provided, references, funding statements, license, full text PDF link) is supplied to CrossRef at registration time and harvested from there by downstream services including Dimensions, Lens.org, OpenAlex, and Google Scholar.

Articles are also deposited in:

  • PKP Preservation Network (PKP|PN) for distributed long-term preservation
  • Zenodo for open archival of full-text PDFs and supplementary materials
  • Internet Archive Scholar (Fatcat) for redundant full-text indexing

Article metadata is harvestable from the journal site via the OAI-PMH protocol, allowing library catalogues, OpenAIRE, BASE, CORE, and similar aggregators to ingest the journal's content automatically.

We have submitted, or are preparing to submit, applications to DOAJ, Scopus, Web of Science (Emerging Sources Citation Index), Scilit, and Index Copernicus. The current status of each indexing application is shown on the Indexing page. We do not claim to be indexed in any service we have not actually been accepted into.

8. Funder mandate compliance

Publishing in Journal of Management Research and Review satisfies the open access requirements of the major research funders, including:

  • Plan S (cOAlition S funders, including Wellcome, UKRI, the European Research Council, FWF Austria, and others)
  • the U.S. OSTP 2022 memorandum on public access to federally funded research
  • the U.S. NIH Public Access Policy
  • Horizon Europe and earlier European Commission framework programmes
  • the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Open Access policy

The combination of immediate open access, CC BY 4.0 licensing, author copyright retention, no embargo, registration with CrossRef, and deposit in OpenAIRE-harvested archives meets the formal requirements of all of these funders. Authors with specific funder questions can contact the editorial office for documentation.

9. Updates to this policy

This policy is reviewed annually by the EP Journals Group editorial committee. Material updates are announced 30 days before they take effect, applied prospectively to new submissions, and have no retroactive impact on already-published articles. The CC BY 4.0 license terms applied to a published article cannot be reversed.

The current version of this policy is v1.0, effective 1 May 2026. The previous policy version is preserved in our editorial records and is available on request.
